Years ago I taught at a private religious college in the South founded for white males prior to the Civil War (the former slave quarters were still in use, but as piano practice rooms), but now open to women snd some minorities. I did find that the male students spoke up more quickly and at greater length even if they had no idea what they were talking about. But once I made it clear I wanted to hear EVERYONE’s points, most (but by no means all) backed up and encouraged their female classmates.
