My experience has been that we'll be hired because we have solid credentials, but it is tacitly assumed that we didn't really earn them. Once we prove that we did earn them, that our ability is congruent with our credentials, the white power structure gets mad, as if we have somehow tricked them by being who we said we were, when they were thinking we were somebody else. That's when the trouble begins. That's when the labels of "angry" and "uppity" appear.
