I'm sorry you went through this but I understand. A long time ago, back in college in the South, I joined the local chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Then, I went to my one and only national NOW meeting.

As the only black woman in virtually every room, my desire to discuss race was continuously dismissed. I got the "in due time" or "with all deliberate speed" crap and knew at that time: NOW was by white women for white women, same as the founders saw US liberty as by property-owning white men, for property-owning white men. I never went back.

Curiously, the black women on campus were proven right when they said "Why are you hanging around all those white women?" I was wrong when I said "It's not about race." But I was young and innocent.
